The 12 groups – which includes NAR, bankers and Landlords applauded pandemic efforts but said it’s time for eviction ban to end as scheduled on June 30, 2021.

WASHINGTON -A broad real estate coalition urged the Biden Administration to sunset the federal moratorium on evictions as scheduled on June 30, 2021, and it applauded the measures taken to stabilize the housing sector so far.

In a joint letter sent to Biden, the coalition said the broad financial assistance provided through relief bills – including Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) funds, expanded unemployment insurance and direct stimulus checks – helped avoid a financial catastrophe and provided a path to recovery for individuals, households and businesses alike.

“As the pandemic comes under better control, we look forward to working with the administration to end unsustainable nationwide federal restrictions on property operations, implement workable solutions for renters facing housing instability and help the country recover,” the coalition said.

However, continuing the “nationwide one-size-fits-all, federal eviction policy is at odds with the current economic environment.” The coalition says any extension of the ban would burden renters with even more debt and slow a housing sector recovery.

The coalition offered a recap of the current state, nothing that COVID-19 cases and deaths are down, and vaccines widely available, with 63% of U.S. adults having received at least one vaccination.

Coalition members include:

  • CCIM Institute
  • Council for Affordable and Rural Housing
  • Institute of Real Estate Management
  • Manufactured Housing Institute
  • Mortgage Bankers Association
  • National Association of Realtors
  • National Affortable Housing Management Association
  • National Apartment Association
  • National Association of  Home Builders
  • National Association of Housing Cooperatives
  • National Leased Housing Association
  • National Multifamily Housing Council
